After 14 years, here it is, the much rumored 23 disc set of Las Vegas IEM Popmart rehearsals. It once was a 27 disc set in the original and inferior pass with the DAT tapes, but then I re-transferred off the DAT s in 2007 and it was condensed eliminating some dead air time. I received permission finally in 2009 from the taper to do what we wanted with these, and we attempted to trade them out a bit, as all us sly IEM guys do. Problem was nobody has since ever done a project like it to trade it out for (tried, and the occasional day or two was done, but that’s about it), so instead of trading it and then watching everyone in the sub-culture try to swap it with each other, figured it was just better to put it out there for everyone.
Zircon spent about a week in his car with his Icom scanner working on this nightly. There was one night he went back to school to take some midterm exams, think it was the 21st. He had two Icoms, one he would tape with, the other he would monitor with to check the other channels. This wasn’t rocket science as Garwood (the IEM company this tour) had the frequencies for Edge on their website in a tech section.
Sharebear was enlisted to work his magic on these mono scans and has done a great job cleaning them up and making them less harsh than the masters. Another reason we are releasing them now is I feel they have been maximized by Sharebear to reach the best potential they have. Thanks to him for all of his hard work on this project.
Sorry I don’t have the definite split between the different nights, but if you listen careful you can hear the breaks. Most nights they would have an early and a late session (much like they do now)
Finally this is not a sonic marvel, but a very cool item to have to see how things developed over time as they built up to what was a very slow evolving tour musically. As we all know they were not in great musical shape during this time period or the first few months of this tour. Enjoy, and as usual don’t sell, just enjoy, and if you are sitting on something cool, maybe a little karma says to put something up of interest, let’s face it, it will be a real quiet 5 years for these guys.
